The only winter-only activity on this trail
Unlike bungy, jet boating and skydiving, which run year-round, skiing here is genuinely seasonal — the field is only open roughly June through early October, with conditions generally strongest through July and August. Outside that window, there's no substitute activity at the same location; plan a Remarkables trip around the season, not the other way around.
How it compares to Coronet Peak
The Remarkables and Coronet Peak are Queenstown's two closest fields, both roughly 20-30 minutes from town by road. The Remarkables tends to draw a reputation for wider beginner and intermediate terrain and a more sheltered basin, while Coronet Peak is generally considered to have more varied and challenging terrain with night-skiing sessions on some dates — check current trail-condition reports for both before deciding, since conditions shift through the season.
Further out: Cardrona and Treble Cone
Cardrona and Treble Cone, near Wanaka, are a longer drive (roughly an hour-plus from Queenstown) but are commonly bundled into multi-mountain lift-pass packages alongside The Remarkables and Coronet Peak if you're skiing more than one field across your stay.
Gear and lift passes
Full rental packages — skis or snowboard, boots, poles, helmet — are available both at the field's base and from rental shops in Queenstown town, so you don't need your own gear. Multi-day and multi-mountain pass bundles are worth comparing against single-day tickets if you're skiing more than once.
