Altitude options and what you actually get
Operators offer jumps from roughly 12,000, 15,000 and up to around 19,000 feet, with the higher packages priced accordingly for the extra freefall time — typically 45 to 90 seconds depending on altitude, followed by several minutes under canopy. On a clear day, the views take in Lake Wakatipu, The Remarkables, and reportedly as far as Milford Sound and Mount Aspiring from the highest jumps.
The total time commitment is longer than the jump
Budget 2.5 to 3.5 hours from check-in to finish, even though the freefall itself lasts under two minutes — this covers registration, gearing up, the flight to altitude (itself 15-20 minutes), the jump and descent, and getting your gear off afterward. Don't book this as a quick between-activities add-on.
Weather is the real risk to your booking
Cloud cover over the drop zone — not just rain — can cancel or delay a jump, since the pilot and jump crew need clear visibility for a safe descent. This makes skydiving one of the more weather-sensitive activities on this trail. If your itinerary is tight, book it earlier in your Queenstown stay rather than on your last available day, so a cancellation leaves room to rebook.
Health and age requirements
Most operators set a minimum age around 12-13 (with parental consent required under 16-18 depending on the operator) and a maximum weight limit, along with the standard pregnancy/heart-condition/recent-surgery exclusions common across these activities. Confirm current limits directly with the operator when booking.
